Anton by Crowcon has pledged its support for Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week 2023: Raising awareness of the ‘silent killer’.
In collaboration with the All-Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group, we are actively participating in Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week to enhance public understanding of safeguarding against the severe health risks posed by carbon monoxide.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, poisonous gas produced when fossil fuels burn inefficiently. Often referred to as ‘The Silent Killer’, ‘ CO is particularly dangerous because its presence cannot be detected through the senses. Faulty boilers, gas fires, and cookers are common sources of this highly toxic gas. In the UK alone, over 200 people are hospitalised annually due to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, resulting in approximately 60 deaths.
Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week serves as a crucial reminder that have the understanding but also the equipment to not only keep yourself but others safe. As temperatures drop, the heightened use of household appliances and heating systems increases the risk of CO exposure in enclosed spaces, elevating the potential for illness and death. Recognising the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning is vital, as it may not only save your life but also the lives of those around you.
